The most famous chefs in the whole world swear by baking soda. It is a leavening agent in the meals that they prepare. But other than for eating, baking soda has other functions as well. Take a look…
It makes your boiled eggs easy to peel off
Sometimes it is a challenge to peel off the boiled egg’s skin, correct? Well, it has something to do with its pH level. Egg whites are somewhat acidic because it has low level of pH balance. Now, being like that, the shell of the egg sticks on the egg white much more while it is being cooked, according to Harold McGee, a food scientist and expert.
So, in order to keep the shell from sticking to the egg, add half a teaspoon of baking soda on a quart of water before boiling the egg. It will make the egg more basic when alkaline is high. Just one observation though – this mixture will make the egg taste and smell more sulfur-like.
It can sanitize your grilling station
All summer long, for sure, your husband has used the grill for at least sixty times. Yeah, that means everyday he’s been grilling pork chops, lamb shanks and beef skewers. He even branded himself KING of the GRILL.
But it seems that the King is not keen on cleaning up after his use. In the end, it’s you who picks up the pieces of the dirty grill – the Queen of the Slaves. Joking aside, if you need a cleaning agent, your baking soda will do the job just great. Soap won’t be able to take it out, trust me.
Make a paste of the baking soda with some water. Then, just remove the blackened grill from the stand or the station and scrub it using the pasty mixture and that’s it!
It can make your cookies go poof
Well some of the more daring cookie masters add a pinch of baking soda on their perfect cookie recipe. Why? Baking soda can make any type of food, when cooked, to rise. So if you want cookies with the puff, sprinkle a bit of the baking soda and you’ll know what will happen next. It also works great in breading mixes for chicken and fish.
It can get rid of stinky hands
You chop onions and skin garlic. It is needed if you want to prepare a really good meal – sauté is the key. But then again, the smell of garlic and onion is just outrageous. It doesn’t come off, whatever you do. You try hand wash gels with perfume and whatever else you can think ok. Still, it’s there.
Well, the solution is baking soda. Just sprinkle a tablespoon of baking soda on your palm and rub your fingers and hands with it.
It can make your onions super yummy
Do you like browning onions? Well, caramelized onions have never been so good until you make it with baking soda. It even speeds up cooking time, you know. Adding baking soda to onion will increase its pH level and of course, quicken the cooking process.
